The demand for laser hair removal has grown bigger than ever. Both men and women are now considering this treatment because of its impressive results. Also, laser hair removal will help men save a huge chunk of time, and eliminates the hassle of frequent shaving. Because men have more hair, they are more prone to skin damage, and skin conditions such as folliculitis barbae or ingrown hair. Laser hair removal can really do wonders for men. To give you a clearer view on how laser hair removal works, here’s how it goes:

First stage of laser hair removal

Generally, males do more treatments than women. It’s due to man’s biological nature that has to do with their androgen hormones, and testosterone. There is no exact number of treatments for men’s hair removal since it all depends on the person’s hair cycles. The laser works by killing hairs that are only in the active stage, which is the first stage of hair growth where hair is hatched down at the base of the hair shaft.

The laser travels down to hair that is absorbed at the base. Then, it will be transferred to the stem cells that will cause its death. The stem cells may stimulate the growth of new hairs again. However, when the laser targets the stem cells for the second time, the process of hair growth will not happen again. This results in permanent hair loss.

Second stage of laser hair removal

The treatment damages the hair during the second stage of hair removal. This stage causes slower hair growth and thinner strands of hair. The more treatment the patient receives, the thinner his hair will become and the frequency for shaving will be less.

Third stage of laser hair removal

At this stage, the hair is thinner and less, which makes it difficult for the laser to target and destroy the remaining hairs. Therefore, to increase the efficiency of the treatment, the patient will have to shave the area, so the hair comes back to its first stage of growth. The treatment will be continued until a significant reduction of hair takes place in the area. The goal is to see at least 80% of hair loss in the targeted area. Until then the intervals for each treatment will be close to each other for faster and more satisfying results.

Final stage

The final stage involves maintaining the results that have been achieved. Depending on the patient, the doctor may suggest fewer sessions with longer intervals. It will be up to the patient if he decides to continue with the treatment. Typically, the doctors will assess the patient, and will inform him if the desired hair loss has been achieved.
