So we recently sat down with the very bubbly and charismatic, Breda Murphy and we couldn’t have been happier!!

Breda’s story is both interesting and shocking meaning that of course we had loads of questions to ask!

So why was Breda in our Dundrum clinic in the first place? Nail fungus or as you may know it as onychomycosiinline_796_http://havanaskinclinic.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/fungal-nail-1.jpgs. She caught the infection while out gardening, she pricked her finger on a rose bush which led to the infection developing! Surprisingly enough, this not the most shocking part of her story, I mean who knew that you could get fungal nail off the prick of a rose bush????

Before coming to us to undergo laser fungal nail treatment for the infection, she had tried a couple of other different remedies. The first one was a lacquer that was prescribed by the doctor which involved Breda having to continually file down the top of her nail to apply the lacquer and after this proved to not work, she was advised to get an oral medication by a pharmacist which Breda had to then return to the doctor to get a new prescription for.

Now you would think that continually having to return to the doctor would be the worst part about Breda’s story but it’s not. Breda felt relieved after being prescribed the oral medication, this relief did not last long though. The oral medication resulted in Breda beginning to lose her taste buds and also resulted in mood changes and feelings of depression. Breda told us about how she just felt so low. Her son then researched the medication and found that people had been suicidal as a result of taking them and had completely lost their taste buds. After 2 months of taking the medication, Breda was both at her lowest and on her way to losing all of her taste buds.

Of course Breda made the decision to come off the medication as we all would and has now begun laser treatment for the infection. We’ll make sure to let you know hoe she gets on. J

It’s crazy to think that this all resulted from the prick of a rose bush.

Our latest blog is taking a look at all of you unanswered questions in relation to laser hair removal. We get asked the same questions all the time which is why we decided to grab Caroline to finally put the record straight!

Luckily for us, she was more than happy to answer these questions. Let’s take a look at Havana Skin Clinic’s most commonly asked questions and of course their answers. 😉

If you have fair hair, can you have laser hair removal?

Q) If you have fair hair, can you have laser hair removal?

A)Yes of course, the pigment in the hair will absorb the energy. We also use the LightSheer DUET which is able to treat any skin type and hair colour.

Q) How many treatments do you need to have of laser hair removal?

A)No one can answer this as to destroy the hair, we need to catch it at the active stage of growth so it all depends on what stage of growth your hair is at each treatment. A lot of clients will find patches of hair left half way through the treatment meaning that they were at the 2nd or 3rd stage of growth during the other treatments.

Q) What is the difference between the lasers at Havana Skin Clinic uses compared to everybody else?

A)We use a diode laser called the LightSheer DUET by Lumenis which works by using a vacuum technology meaning that it can pull the hair follicle closer to the laser and suppress your nerve endings meaning that the treatment is more effective and less painful. With this machine, we can treat up to a skin type 6.

Q)What do I have to do for pre appointment prep?

A)You will need to book a consultation to ensure that you can have laser hair removal. This will involve a patch test and also some questions covering medical history and your most recent sun exposure.

Due to the advanced technology we use here at Havana Skin Clinic, we can treat you for laser hair removal if your last sun exposure was no less than 28 days. Older technology has to wait for the melanin to be completely gone from the skin meaning you could be waiting for anything up to 6 months.

Here’s the full video, check out it if you want to see all of the above questions answered in more detail.

January Russell Winters

We recently had the pleasure of meeting model, January Winters as she visited our IFSC clinic to begin treatment on her cellulite.

inline_593_http://havanaskinclinic.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/janurary-and-caroline-300x169.jpg

She expressed how her cellulite had just crept up on her which most people would find hard to believe looking at her as she appears to be flawless, but in fact 80% of women experience cellulite at one point in their lives and only 10% of men have it! THEY HAVE IT SO EASY! For those of you who are lucky enough to not have had some experience with cellulite, it’s also known as orange peels or dimples in the skin.

Caroline had a look at the area and decided that the best treatment option would be dual combination treatment which involved which involved clinical and home care at the same time. This involved vacuum stacked radio frequency and CELL.U.LIFT. That treatment targets your collagen fibres and as Caroline said, “will become your new best friend.”

For those of who wondering what the radio frequency treatment feels like, it work by using vacuum therapy and so you can feel the suction and it’s also hot. January was more sensitive to the heat then the vacuum but told our team that it was “quite warm but not painful, totally bearable.” WE’LL TAKE IT! 😉 She also described it as a weird sensation.

You’re probably wondering what the after care is? Well it couldn’t be simpler all you have to do is make sure you don’t cool the area down after treatment as you need to let the treatment to do its job when you leave as it’s going to remodel for the next 12 weeks, which is also the point at which January will see the maximum results from the treatment.

Going back to the home care, January will be applying the CELL.U.LIFT morning and night.

So many people come into our clinics everyday with skin that’s looking a little bit neglected, however it’s not neglected at all. What does your skin need?

They’ve just been miss judging what exactly their skin is lacking. For example, it can be so easy to mistake sensitive skin for dry skin.

inline_551_http://havanaskinclinic.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/carolineskin-300x169.jpg

We decided to grab Caroline on to talk us through the various cleansers we should be using for our skin and here’s what she had to say.

If you have dry or dehydrated skin, vitamin C is the best active ingredient to induce into your skin to help combat any dryness that you’re having. Another ingredient that would be very common would be salicylic which would treat a build-up of oil on the skin and would help anyone who suffers with break outs, anyone who is suffering with acne and in some cases, mild rosacea.

A build of dry dead skin can build up on the surface that you need to shed as soon as you reach 25. At 25, your cell turn over starts to slow down and you begin to get this build-up of dead skin and the only way to properly kick in is with this active ingredient to get everything moving again and doing their jobs as they should be.

Another really popular ingredient would be glycolic. Glycolic is used for anyone who has a build-up of dry skin or for anyone who is has ageing skin.

However, these ingredients should only be used a correction period of maximum of 3 months.  After this, you would then need to ween off them and you can do this with home remedies which is something we love to do here at Havana Skin Clinic! We may be a laser and skin clinic but we love creating face masks with everyday house hold ingredients and will be launching our new series, “Fruit Facial Friday” on our You Tube channel, so don’t forget to hit subscribe 😉

For now, here’s the full video this blog was wrote on! Hope you like it!!
