Jules Coll asks all the important questions when it comes to Laser Hair Removal

How does laser hair removal work, is it painful?????

So, whether the treatment is painful depends on the individual as it really depends on how thick the hair is. Some areas are also more sensitive than others like the bikini area or the underarm. Caroline explained to Jules that overall the treatment isn’t too uncomfortable and in some areas, are in fact virtually pain free.

We saw blogger, Peaches & Cream compare the treatment to a massage while Caroline treated her legs while we saw Vlogger, Danielle Olivierre rate her pain scale a 4 out of 5 on her bikini area and gave her legs a 2. Some people are just more sensitive than others and if you have thick hair with a dark pigment, it’ll pinch more.

Regarding facial areas, we have a smaller hand piece that has a cooling tip so it provides contact cooling right before the laser works it magic making the treatment more comfortable. In fact, in 9 out 10 cases, clients rate their pain scales as a 1/5.

Can I get Laser Hair Removal on every part of my body?

Every single day, we get asked this which is why we’ve decided to set the record straight once and for all. Luckily for us, Caroline was more than happy to make this quick video with us on what exactly you can and can’t get treated for laser hair removal and we might as well ell you now. There’s not a lot you can get treated.

In order to have laser hair removal, the area must be clean shaven meaning that the inside of your nose and ears cannot be lasered.

When it comes to more private areas, women can have a full holiday lasered, the only areas which cannot be lasered are where there is pink shiny skin and inside the lips. With men, we can treat as far as an extended bikini and can of course have the full buttocks area.

So there you have it, we can pretty much treat any area.

How to shave before treatment?

Shaving an area like your face can sound daunting but what every image just popped into your head, we can guarantee is not an accurate representation of what you need to do to prepare for a session of laser hair removal on the facial area. You don’t need to do anything drastic like cover your chin and upper lip in shaving room and invest in a Gillette Infusion, oh no. All you need to do is use the side of the razor to lightly feather over where the problem hairs are until they are removed.

The reason for this is because you need to avoid shaving the white hairs as over time they can also become thicker but if you do, it’s nothing to worry about because during laser, we treat the full area.

Luckily for us Vlogger, Jules Coll agreed to be the model in this demo, we hope you like it:

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful or Pain free????

With so many mixed reviews now that really is a question and the answer is slightly confusing. The answer is yes and no!

Is Laser Hair Removal painful?

There are a lot of different machines on the market for laser hair removal and yes a lot of them can be painful but the one we use here at Havana Skin Clinic is fortunately not painful.

The device we use is incredibly smart, we use the LightSheer Duet by Lumenis and it works by using a vacuum technology which suppresses the nerve endings and so reduces the pain levels.

Here’s what Caroline had to say,

“The laser is not travelling through your nerves and so you’ll feel a lot less pain. We’re also pulling the hair follicle a lot closer to the laser meaning that the intensity of the heat doesn’t need to be as aggressive so treatments are a lot more comfortable and it’s 75% faster than any other laser and there’s less irritation on the skin and down time with the laser being a diode laser meaning that the heat is heating up from the base of the hair shaft and travelling up to the surface of the skin as opposed to heating from the surface of the skin down to the hair shaft.”

Caroline, CEO and Director – Havana Skin Clinic

Most clients experience slight discomfort on more sensitive areas and little to no pain on their legs. In fact some clients like the sensation the laser has on their legs.

Can I have laser hair removal while pregnant?

Unfortunately the answer is no, you can’t have laser hair removal while pregnant! There’s no proof to say that’s harmful for the baby BUT we also cannot guarantee with 100% certainty that it’s not which is like everything else with pregnancy, we have to be EXTRA careful.

We often have women who are trying for a baby enquire about if it’s safe to have laser and if they should begin treatment? YES of course you should. Even if you manage to have 2 or 3 sessions before becoming pregnant, you will achieve a considerable reduction in the hair growth making life A LOT easier for you during pregnancy.

In these circumstances we would just recommend that you have treatment on the first day of your menstrual cycle every month to guarantee that you are not in pregnancy.

Is your hair growing BACK?

Do I have to have top-up appointments after my course of Laser Hair Removal?

Yes everyone needs top up sessions after they’ve finished their course of treatment, you’re looking at a maximum of 2 treatments per year and some people can even go up to 3 years without needing any top up sessions.

You’re probably thinking, “I thought laser hair removal was permanent?” and it is permanent, but we have thousands of dormant hairs in our body which can be stimulated to grow at any given time.

The following factors will cause your hair to start growing again.

At your consultation, your laser specialist will outline how we aim to achieve an 80-90% reduction in the hair. After we achieve this, we will bring you back around 3 months afterwards to later to ensure that no damaged hair is resurfacing. In most cases, we won’t have an issue but if we do, we’ll treat you with another 2-3 sessions to ensure that we get 80-90% reduction in your hair.

After this, the only growth you’ll be experiencing is new growth and generally you’ll be at 2 sessions per year.
